A Meadow

A serene ageless meadow

Ravaged by the guns of war

Nature torn asunder

By mans inhumanity to man

Fields of green turned to mud

All in the name of mankind’s lust

A lust for power, a lust for blood

All done they claim, in the name of god

Yet from this mud torn scene of hell

Fed by the blood of men who fell

Arose a different field of red

Released to the joy of sun and rain

A field of blood red poppies

A tribute to those men that gave

Gave the ultimate sacrifice

Lost generations of lives they paid

A reminder of when humanity failed
