Land of Yesteryear

I was born to be free

In a land bequeathed to me

By ancestors who went before

Who fought for me and yours

A land that welcomed refugees

As citizens of the world

The persecuted and disposed

Were welcome in this land

Sadly no longer does it stand

As xenophobia expands

Spreading hate and intolerance

Through this green and pleasant land

People standing in line

For free food to feed their families

Suffering the humiliation

Whilst the wealthy feed their greed

People living on the streets

Homeless and in constant fear

This is the land built for heroes

Is the land of yesteryear
