Politicians – Ignorance and Dogmatism
If there is one thing that all of us who believe in the democratic system should be concerned about it is the increasing tendency of our politicians and especially the leaders to ground their policies in immovable dogmatism.
Their political dogmatism is based not on the strength of policy but a stubbornness born out of thinking that they and only they have the solution to the many woes affecting the nation.
It is a stubbornness that also reveals a narrow -mindedness that very often also reveals prejudice, bigotry, racism and sexism all of which amount to a complete disregard for other peoples opinions making compromise impossible.
If there is one thing modern day politicians appear totally unwilling to do is to question their own inflexibility and intransigence.
Perhaps the reality of the situation is that politicians are simply ignorant of what is happening or needed outside of the political bubble in which they live and as William Osler the renowned medical scientist so eloquently as said,
“The greater the ignorance, the greater the dogmatism the tendency to lay down principles as undeniably true, without consideration of evidence or the opinions of others.”
