Are we seeing an “Explosion of Stupidity?”

With Donald Trump pulling the United States out of the 1987 Nuclear Proliferation Treaty – what other treaties or agreements are the USA going to walk away from? – and announcing that “he” is going to increase the US nuclear arsenal should be of concern to the whole world.

It may be of course that the USA hasn’t already sufficient nuclear weapons to destroy the world.

The problem is that it is completely in character of a man who thinks he is above the law and untouchable which entitles him to send out edicts and make unilateral decisions unencumbered by either conscience, morality or consideration for those affected.

Donald Trump – and I know this will anger the far right in the USA and here in the UK – is the epitome of a tyrant who believes that terrorising staff and creating an atmosphere of mistrust breaking their spirit to prevent them from standing or speaking up for what is right which allows him to continue with his behaviour.

The result as the world is seeing and experiencing is an apparently endless list of ill-conceived and poorly executed policies and projects some of which border on the insane.
The danger as lessons from history show only too well is that even though people may fear such men too many believe them and by the simple process of expounding -usually very loudly- an even greater volume of policies and projects their believers believe even more.

Until that is it is too late and recognition of the deceit has resulted in global conflict either military or as we are seeing economic.

Perhaps it is best summed up in the words of the French journalist and playwright when he wrote,

“The greatest danger of bombs is in the explosion of stupidity that they provoke”

In the meantime I wonder when those in the Senate and Congress who are supposed to hold the President to account will start to question the decisions, actions and behaviours of their President.

Or will they continue to accept and be complicit in whatever outcomes arise from them including the damage to the people of the United States of America?
