Nation Builders

They fought for independence

Freedom from the King

To build a country of their own

Where every man is free

They were the descendants

Of those who crossed the seas

To escape from tyranny at home

To a new country of their own

They faced up to the challenges

Overcoming hardship and of strife

They crossed the plains and mountains

Seeking to build themselves a life

They conquered those that lived there

Took their lands and took their souls

Making way for the other immigrants

Who across the seas – followed

These ‘foreigners’ who came before

From countries across the globe

Whose origins are now despised

Who arrived to build a nation

Were people like you and I
