Those Who Have Served

Those that have served

And experienced war

Seldom ever talk of it

The memories are too raw

It is against the basic instinct

Of man to kill other men

And yet our military do it

At the politicians whim

To cover up their failure

Military risk life and limb

They say to protect freedom

They send men to murder other men

But they don’t have to live with it

Only those who serve will understand

So when you ask a soldier

Just what they did in life

And you don’t receive an answer

Don’t ask the soldier twice

For his thoughts are very private

They are paying a lifelong price

Of memories of their comrades

Who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
