I read a quote by Maurice Polydore Marie Bernard Maeterlinck the Belgian playwright, poet and essayist in which he said:

“If the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live.”

I have no idea how accurate the statement is but it reminded me of this poem I remember from school written by the American Poet Emily Dickinson.

‘Bee! . I’m Expecting You!’

Bee! I’m expecting you!

Was saying yesterday

To somebody you know

That you were overdue-

The Frogs got Home last week-

Are settled, and at work-

Birds, mostly back-

The Clover warm and thick-

You’ll get my letter by

The seventeenth; reply

Or better, be with me-

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)
