Broadsides Triumph – King Lear

On Saturday I had the privilege and it was a privilege to go and watch the Northern Broadsides production of King Lear at their home in the Dean Clough Mill, Halifax.

It is a production directed by Jonathan Miller with Barrie Rutter playing the King, but what made it fantastic was not only his performance but that of all of the other actors, perfectly cast and delivered with impeccable timing.

There is something surreal in sitting in an old wool mill with its heritage and unusual atmosphere watching a play and their use of the spaces is nothing short of brilliant.

If anyone fancies going to watch a live performance of a Shakespeare play this spring they could do a lot worse, and certainly no better than to go and see the Broadsides production of King Lear.
