Will Conservative Demonization Policy Work?

Will and more importantly perhaps when will people know if the Conservatives at both the national and local level policy of demonizing millions of ordinary people with the aim of setting them against each other leading to individual and collective isolation has worked?

Let’s start with the almost hysterical statements by George Osborne the Chancellor of the Exchequer supported by the Prime Minister trying to link the vile and despicable crimes of Mick Phillpott as a justification for their reform the Welfare System.

Desperation causes even the most intelligent of people to make not only stupid but nonsensical statements of which there are no doubt those of the PM and his best friend is great examples.

Throughout the whole of the Conservative – Lib Dem coalition Governments time in office the whole crux of their policy is to demonize, divide and isolate people.

It is a policy that has been used down the ages by Governments who are intent on carrying out what amounts to economic tyranny the like of which we have seen in countries across the globe where the rich get infinitely richer and the poor get increasingly poorer.

The coalition’s economic failure is becoming increasingly more obvious with not only the number of people and families falling below the poverty line but also the gap between the ‘haves’ and ‘have – not’s’ expanding at an increasing rate.

How in one of the wealthiest nations on the planet can a Government justify giving a £100,000 tax break to millionaires on the same day that tens of thousands of families fall into a poverty trap?

I wrote some time ago (Public Exclusion may lead to “First They Came” 7th February 2012) about the dangers of people hiding their heads in the sand and ignoring what the Conservative led coalition were doing.

Sadly the predictions have come true and just like the poem by Pastor Martin Niemoller.

First They Came – Pastor Martin Niemoller

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

They are now coming for you, and whether it is police on the streets or nurses and doctors in our hospitals, whether it is the shortage of school places and teachers or support for the elderly there are increasingly fewer people to come to your aid.

The only saving grace is that we live in a democracy and can vote those who are making the decisions out of office.

The problem of course is that if the Conservative – Lib Dem policies of divisiveness succeeds the electorate will be beaten down and demoralised to the extent that they will not go out to vote and by default the Conservatives remain to continue their economic and social tyranny.

It is supported by an electoral policy that commonly takes the form of ignoring and refusing to contact large parts of the community not only during an election campaign but between elections.

It is why the Northampton Conservatives will only be contacting those they think will vote Conservatives; after all why stir up those who might oppose you.

It is a policy borne out of the arrogance that takes residents for granted and may well come back to haunt them.

In local terms if the people of Northampton don’t get involved and allow themselves to be excluded by politicians who seem hell-bent on championing the Conservative Governments agenda then it may well end up being “and there was no one left to speak up for me”.

It is why people should consider joining with those of us who do speak up and make sure your voice is heard.

There is an alternative.

The only real alternative is to vote for a Labour party who are prepared to listen and who are the only political party who genuinely believe in putting people first and bringing them together as one nation.
