This is a really excellent article and demonstrates some of the tensions that exist across Northampton.
Of course there will be those who say it can’t, or won’t happen and there are of course major issue raised as there was prior to the Fair being dropped from the annual calendar.
Some of the concerns were around the cost to the Borough Council but there was also concerns about the Governance arrangements which some who made the decision may still have.
The Northampton Borough Council, through the changes to the Car Parking policy are committed to spending the best part of £600,000 a year of taxpayers money to attract people to Northampton.
The return of the St Crispin Fair in a year that will see the Olympic Torch and Queens Jubilee being celebrated would be another boost for the businesses in Northampton through raising the town centre profile.
Of course there will be concerns, the least amongst them being what seems to be the difference in opinion within the administration with Cllr Eldred saying it is going to happen and the Leader of the Council appearing to having a cooler approach in talking about early talks” with the police, fir brigade, licensing etc.
I’m really pleased Labour has raised the issue and fully support it and hope the people of Northampton will to.
