I had a really good morning out on Thursday last week when the Mayor and Mayoress of Northampton, Jamie Lane and Victoria officially re-opened the first of the restored Victorian greenhouses in Delapre Park Walled Garden after 4 years of first class and devoted work by volunteers and the Friends of Delapre Abbey (FODA).
The good news is that we have been able to find the funding to start on the second greenhouse at once which was really good news and delighted the volunteer groups and leaders.
There is no doubt that without FODA and the volunteers the progress at Delapre would not have happened as quickly as it has. Four years may seem like a long time but it was explained to me that they were determined to take care and do the Victorians justice in restoring the greenhouses to their former glory.
What next? Perhaps the growing of grapes and Delapre wine – who knows.
A great job and example to everyone what can be done with us all working together and having the will to make a difference.
